The Community Cohort (TCC)

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Community Cohort (TCC) is  TSP’s cornerstone program. Currently in its Alpha state, with a projected launch in 2025, the program is designed to provide an immersive and impactful educational experience. Participants in The Community Cohort engage in four subjects designed to provide a well-rounded technological education. These subjects include:

Filmmaking

Participants learn the basics of storytelling, cinematography, editing, and production. Skills acquired in filmmaking are critical for roles in media production, advertising, and digital marketing, where visual content creation is a valuable asset. Filmmaking also enhances creativity and communication skills, which are transferable to many other fields.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

AI is a fairly new technological asset that is being infused in all aspects of our lifestyles. From Alexa to digital assistants, AI is becoming a staple in society. Learning how to properly prompt AI and infusing its capabilities into your professional and personal life is and will be an asset. The AI industry is currently one of the fastest-growing technological innovations. AI is a very important component of game design and will be taught and used to innovate and create while designing apps.

Coding

Participants learn fundamental coding languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python. Coding skills are essential for software development, web development, data analysis, and cybersecurity. As technology continues to evolve, the demand for skilled coders grows, making this a critical area of study for future tech professionals.

App/Game Design

This subject covers the principles of designing user-friendly applications, from conceptualization to prototyping and testing. Game design is app design. Playing games is often the first foray into technology. Teaching app design in the form of game creation allows young people to engage in activities in which they are familiar and deem fun!

These same app design skills are crucial in the tech industry, particularly in roles related to user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design. With the increasing reliance on mobile technology and apps in everyday life, proficiency in app design opens doors to numerous job opportunities.

Each of these subjects is carefully integrated into the program to ensure that participants not only gain technical skills but also understand their practical applications in real-world scenarios. The curriculum is designed to be immersive, interactive, and engaging. Our intentional goal is to provide The Community Cohort (TCC) with a strong foundation in technology while preparing them for various career paths in the tech industry.

PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS

The skills learned in The Community Cohort are directly aligned with the needs of the modern job market. As such, pathways to success after completion of the program include:

College

Many four-year universities and community colleges offer advanced courses and degrees in technology fields that build on the skills learned in TCC. These programs provide further education and specialized training that can enhance career prospects.

Paid Internships or Entry-Level Jobs

Participants can seek internships or entry-level positions in tech-related fields. Examples include junior software developer, IT support specialist, digital content creator, and roles in various tech companies. These opportunities provide hands-on experience and a stepping stone to more advanced positions.

Trade Schools

Trade schools provide specialized training and certifications that can further enhance job readiness. These institutions offer focused programs in areas such as coding, digital design, and IT support, equipping students with practical skills for the job market.

Entrepreneurship

The tech skills acquired in TCC are innovative and creative, allowing participants to build a strong portfolio of published work. These skills can be used as building blocks for starting a small business, consulting, or creating marketable apps, enabling young people to venture into entrepreneurship.

The Squeegie Project is structured as a comprehensive 38-week program. It includes three semesters with adequate breaks in between, field trips, in-services sponsored by the technology sector, and finishes with an internship or actual career experience before graduation. This structure ensures that participants receive thorough training and practical experience.

The program is primarily aimed at Black Opportunity Youth or any Demographic that is underrepresented in the Tech Sector between the ages of 18-24 and residing in Baltimore City Proper.

There are several ways you can support The Squeegie Project and contribute to its success:

  • Donate: Financial contributions help fund our programs, purchase equipment, and provide stipends for participants.
  • Volunteer: Share your skills and expertise by mentoring or teaching our participants.
  • Partner: Organizations can collaborate with us to enhance our programs and provide additional resources.
  • Spread the Word: Help us raise awareness about our mission and the importance of empowering Black Opportunity Youth in Baltimore.

Your involvement is crucial to creating a positive impact in the community and supporting the next generation of tech leaders.

TCC is currently in its Alpha state, which means it is in the initial testing and refinement phase. The program is being implemented in West Baltimore with plans for expansion. The full launch of the program is projected for 2025.

The Squeegie Project recognizes that our ‘Squeegies’ are young adults who deserve fair compensation for their time and effort. There will be a stipend given to each person confirmed to The Community Cohort (TCC) for in-person participation only. This stipend helps support their commitment to the program and ensures they can fully engage without financial stress.

Additionally, all participants will be allowed and encouraged to participate in cohort competitions, where they can win prizes and gifts. These incentives are designed to motivate and reward our Squeegies for their hard work and dedication throughout the program.
